I’m in the Miami airport, bound for mission work in Nicaragua. So, I want to write about what happens, but ironically, this may be the last time I get to post before the end of the trip- internet in Nica is few and far between, if you can find it at all!

Update: So, I apparently didn’t post the above in Miami, as I just discovered. But I’m safe and sound in Managua!

Waking up on the plane, it finally hit me that I will be alone in a country where no one speaks English, at 1am, with no hotel. Just like I planned. What have I gotten myself into?? But I forgot that and got excited again once we landed. No problems in customs, at least, but how do you find a hotel in Nicaragua at 1am? Funny you should ask:

Start by asking a taxi driver. Of course, they know a wonderfully clean, safe, economic hotel, and want to drive you there. I wasn’t happy about paying $15 for the taxi (he wanted $20 to start with), but it’s 3am eastern time, and I’m tired, so I did it. We got there and the room the driver said was $35 was $50. No. I don’t have much money, and more importantly, I loathe being taken advantage of. I told him to drive me to another. Same story. Drive me to another. Finally, the room is $35! Next, take some time to praise the Lord. Internet as an added bonus. Praise the Lord some more. Get the password, post this from my phone, and pass out. By the way, ALL of this was done in Spanish. Even the passing out part. Buenas noches.
